This is RFC-282. Assuming a +1, it will move to RFV on 2010-04-07.

The amount of data in MusicBrainz has grown considerably over the last 10 years,
and correspondingly, the number of guidelines needed to normalize that data has
also grown. Unfortunately, this has had the side effect of making it hard for a
new user to jump in and start editing.

To solve this I propose a new guideline: Ignore All Style Guidelines Style.

The guideline states quite simply:
If a Style Principle or Official Style Guideline gets in the way of your editing, ignore it.

I know exactly what you're thinking, but don't worry, choosing when and where to invoke the guideline is left entirely up to the discretion of the individual user.

Please see the proposal page for more information:

Very important guideline. I have a question though: in the last sentence, did you mean "Only one user can *ever* utilize this guideline" or "Only one user can utilize this guideline in *each* edit"

Whoops, good catch!

I meant in each edit, or rather, in each instance where it might be necessary to invoke the guideline; a mailing list or IRC discussion isn't exactly an "edit".

I've modified the wiki page accordingly.
