Hercules Usage for Mainframe Application Simulation

Hi All,

I am not an expert on IBM mainframes though I have dabbled in
mainframe
COBOL applications a long while ago.

I am exploring the possibility of using Hercules to simulate a COBOL
mainframe application running at a clients site. The simulation will
be
used by new recruits and existing employees of the client to get
familiar with the mainframe application before 'live' operation.

The application is running on a z9 system under z-os. The database is
IMS.

I have the following questions.

1) Has anyone done in this group done this sort of thing before ?
2) Is it feasible ? e.g. using MVS 3.8 for Hercules
3) Assuming that the client has licenses for the COBOL compiler and
IMS, how do I convert the software to Hercules readable format ?
4) Are any real customers using Hercules for simulation / training or
is Hercules restricted to geeks and developers only ?
5) How does the cost/benefit compare with replicating a smaller
version of the system on an LPAR on the mainframe itself ?

I would be grateful if anyone can shed any light on these matters.
