can't start weberp

I get this message:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local
MySQL server through socket '/opt/lampp/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in
/opt/lampp/htdocs/webERP/includes/ConnectDB_mysql.inc on line 7

The configuration in the file config.php for the database user name and
password do not provide the information required to connect to the database
server

Can someone help?
