This reminds me of a question I stumbled upon when I first looked at 0desktop. Where does it get its list of "currently installed applications" from? Does it just scan for .desktop files it created? For the Windows implementation I was planning on creating a MyApps.xml file that would contain a list of interface URIs the user chose to "install" along with flags indicating what kind of shortcuts to create (desktop, start menu, etc.). This list of "my applications" would be portable across computers; maybe eventually stored in the cloud. Another possible use of a single file listing all interfaces a user considers "installed": A system daemon could crawl all those files and use that information to determine which implementations are still in use by someone and which can be purged from the cache. > As input it takes a list of interfaces, either uris or files. > Output e.g. http://afb.users.sourceforge.net/zero-install/index/ > The remaining part is adding categories and installed/criteria to 0desktop, and have it (optionally) load such index.xml files. Looks great. I'd use this as a data source for the Windows implementation's main GUI as well. Once the user has installed Zero Install he or she is immediately presented with a list of applications that can now be launched. > What do you think ? Did I get something wrong in the XML markup ? The "injector installation instructions" link is dead. It points to http://0install/injector.html instead of http://0install.net/injector.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net Dev2Dev email is sponsored by: Show off your parallel programming skills.
