Another point is that the demo images you have sent have, IIRC, only
been of ms fonts; it is also important to see what the changes do to
other fonts.  I am particularly interested in how the Deja Vu family
changes when rendered in the 8-24 px/em range with your diff applied.

And that only covers a few script/language tuples.  Many other fonts
are similarly important.  Perhaps some suggestions can be made?
