gFTP IPv6 bug

I am running on Centos 5.2 (Gnome 2.16.0).

gFTP gets a segmentation fault when I try to do a put or get from a
vsftp server when both systems are running IPv6 (ie ftp is flowing over
IPv6). No problem with SSH over IPv6. Directory listings work fine
with ftp.

I found an OLD bug report:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350813

Is anyone able to get gFTP doing FTP over IPv6?

Help about develop mount smb share in application

Hi, guys,
I'm developing some application, which will help the user to mount/umount/retrieve samba shares on GNOME desktop.
We want the appearance just like "connect to server..." behavour in GNOME, a mounted volume will be displayed on the desktop.
For example, there's a server "192.168.0.1", and samba share "public". I want a mounted volume displayed on the user's desktop, just like the user click "connect to server..." on the places in the menu.

In previously version before gnome 2.20, I use gconf libraray to do this kind of work.
But gconf library doesnot work after GNOME 2.22.

What kind of API do you suggest that  I can use to implement this function?

I want to use some high level API, may can avoid the change of GNOME's change.

Thanks
Tim

Problem when editing menu entries and folders

Hi there.

I'm Spanish so my English might not be the best, but I'll give it a try. Sorry in advance :P

I'm developing a debian metapackage that installs some applications, and then it creates a menu folder for these applications, moving the menu default menu entries created by those apps to that menu folder.

So, the problem comes when I try to copy files to the /etc/xdg/menus/ and  /usr/share/applications/ and /usr/share/desktop-directories/ . Once the metapackage is compiled and installed, every file is copied properly, except for those that should be copied into the /etc/xdg/menus/ directory. They won't get copied no matter what I do!

Also, when uninstalling the package, the files I copied are removed, but in some cases they do not get removed. They just stay there, even though I specified that they should be removed. If I remove them manually and then install the metapackage again, it won't copy those files back to the designed place, just as if the system thought they are already there.

I've successfully developed other metapackages/packages that copy/remove/move files when installed, and never had this kind of problem before.

Is there something I'm missing? Something as "when the menu file/folder is installed/loaded, you must do XXXX to get it properly removed" or "such directory is very special and you must do XXXX to get files into it"?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Julio Antequera

Gnome Intermediate Manual ??

Hi;

I would like to learn more about the inner workings of Gnome and friends
(e.g. Nautilus, Metacity etc.).

I have been using Gnome as my desktop for three years. I am familiar
with a lot of the basics, but I don't want to start programming Gnome.
Put another way, I want to get deeper into Gnome than Help and
gconf-editor but not as far as GTK and Application Development.

Something that perhaps tells me where the key files are, what each is
used for, where and why they get there input files, how various elements
are activated (programs, scripts and daemons) and how to change gnomes
performance.

For example, I just went through an exercise getting my icons on my
Trash changed to function using trash_empty and trash_full. It now
works, but I got it to work by following explicitly a lot of advice from
the mailing list, forum and irc. I am still not sure of the whys and
wayfors of what I did. I have gathered together advice on how to change
the colour of my windows title bar. It is not too difficult to follow
once put together in one place. I now have some minor panel fixes
and/or experiments I want to attempt but I would rather not work blind.

Is there a manual, site or tutorial that covers this middle ground
between beginner and developer?

gnome-session doesn't save settings

Hi, I am running gnome 2.14.3 on Debian Etch.
I want to be able to change my startup programs via Desktop->Preferences->Sessions,
i.e. gnome-session
However, it doesn't work. I want to remove 'bluetooth-applet' and add 'xbindkeys',
but when I do this (on the 'Startup Programs' tab) and then 'Save the current session'
on the 'Session Options' tab, and then restart the computer, there is no change.
In fact my ~/.gnome2/session file is unchanged, but even when I manually change this file and delete the
line for bluetooth-applet it is still listed in the 'Startup Programs' tab in the
gnome-session gui.
I am now using .gnomerc to start xbindkeys, but still want to know how to get gnome-session working properly
and stop bluetooth-applet starting up everytime I boot up.

Can anyone help?

Nautilus please dont try to create Desktop?

Hi!

Im running several Linux-Distributions on my Laptop and i have a extra
Partition for all my files.
I was used to have those files directly on my Desktop and so i created
Desktop as a link to that partition.
However, Nautilus does not approve of this action and on a new login
complains about not being able to create Desktop.

Can i tell nautilus not to create Desktop?

copying few settings from one desktop to another

Another problem I struggle with.

I've got corporate environment here, with many users sharing one Unix environment. Having tens of
workstations makes automating setup critical. The question is - what files should be copied (i.e. names,
there from and where to) to transfer toolbar icons and mime associations from my (root desktop) to chosen
user desktop on separate machine?

What I need is having "quickstart" buttons transferred for few applications and also double-click on
their docs enabled.

redirecting stdin when executing command defined in "launcher properties"

Hi all,

I've got small problem with starting few commands. Let's assume I've got command I attache to a icon. The
command, for example, should be:

my_script </my/stdin/input

I expect /my/script/imput to be attached as my_script stdin, however any redirections seem to be ignored.
Any idea what command syntax should be here?

gdm autologin

Hi,

I am trying to use an autologin feature that I saw in the "daemon"
section of the gdm configuration page
(http://library.gnome.org/admin/gdm/2.20/configuration.html.en#daemonsection)
I want to launch a shell script from the value of the "AutomaticLogin"
parameter ending with a '|' character as stated in the doc.
Unfortunately, that doesn't work and gdm try to authenticate the script
path as a user name instead of launching the script.

I am using gdm 2.22.0. Has this feature been removed from this gdm
version or am I missing something ?

Here are the related syslog msg:

Hidden files showing up in too many places.

I noticed, I think when I installed CentOS 5.1 x86_64 (GNOME 2.16.0),
that most of the windows that show access to files (e.g., for saving a
file, or something to a file) are showing all the hidden files, and I
can't figure out how to turn this off. Is there a global switch or
option someplace that I might have activated that would cause this?
It's impacting my Evolution, OOo and SeaMonkey, at least, and it
doesn't seem to happen on my work desktop, which is also running
CentOS but the 32-bit version.

Any help/info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

gnome-volume-control: add profiles

Hello GNOME Lovers,
I'm not sure, if this is the right place to make a feature request, but
I didn't find anything for this on the homepage.

It would be very nice, if you could create different profiles in volume
control. I have a 7.1 set-up and there here are some use cases:
- Profile 1: Sitting in front of the computer, listening to music (more
on rear speakers)
- Profile 2: Sitting on the couch, watching a movie (less on rear
speakers, more on the center)
- Profile 3: Being in the shower, listening to music (only one side
speaker active)
- Profile 4: Being in the kitchen, listening to music (more bass)

Of course the user should be able to save his own profiles.

Thanks for your time and happy hacking :)
Peter
