[groovy-dev] Another beta of 2.0 for tomorrow
Hi developers,
We're looking forward to releasing a new beta of our upcoming 2.0 version tomorrow.
The big highlights are the invoke dynamic support (on JDK 7) and the integration of the static compilation transformation, triggered by the <at> CompileStatic annotation. But the modularity branch is not yet merged in this version.
We've had some issues with jarjar, which is the tool we use to embed third-party libraries like ASM and Antlr in the Groovy all jar.
It's not supporting the invoke dynamic bytecode instruction, so we had to fork it, and we've been working with the jarjar team to get those changes upstream. And now we're waiting for the confirmation of the upload of a new version of jarjar into Maven Central.
If it works, we'll be able to do the release tomorrow.
We still need get the modularity branch merged in (including the registration of DefaultGroovyMethods contributed by modules).
This work should be integrated in soon after this beta. And will be released in the first Release Candidate.
Depending on the feedback we get (and if we need more RCs to fix bugs you encounter), we could release the final release by the end of the month or so.
Thanks for your attention.
