It isn't as easy, and depending on the font and character set, the outcome
may vary.

Also I wouldn't consider the bullet "plain-text". It is a special character,
whose ascii code is above 127. The bullet is just so easy to type, and works
so consistently on the Mac, that you probably think of it as being so.

Note their point about needing a keyboard with a numeric keypad. I use a
Kinesis ergo keyboard and it is a PITA to type special characters. I assume
same would apply for a laptop.
