--Dirk
--------
Yes Dirk, you can mention our company name. Feel free to post my phone
number as well (650-320-9300 extension 113). It's not fundamentally a
RoR role we are trying to a Ruby programmer for. Here is the official
job offering that we used so far:
==================================================
Jot.com is a well-funded startup in Palo Alto. We are interested in
hiring a full-time Ruby programmer to extend some internal systems
involving registration, billing, and glue-interfaces against API's
provided by external partners.
This is fundamentally a Ruby role, not RoR per se, although there'll
be considerable RoR elements to it. Don't worry if you don't have a
lot of RoR experience -- if you are a great Ruby programmer but have
only dabbled with RoR so far, you'll definitely be fine in picking up
the rest. The converse doesn't necessarily fly though -- if you have
done a couple RoR projects but don't feel like you have deep Ruby
knowledge, see below.
Note: Please only reply if you've got serious, deep Ruby experience.
That means you've built at least one substantial project in it,
something where we can see the code. And you should feel comfortable
answering expert-level questions about the language. We're looking
for someone who really appreciates and groks the Ruby 'aesthetic', but
is very pragmatic at the same time, with mad coding chops and very
high productivity.
This is not at all an "entry-level" type of position, nor can it
realistically serve as a paid bridge to learning Ruby from some other
language you're strong in. You need to already know Ruby cold.
Thanks a lot,
-Michael <mnestler <at> jot.com>
