Hi,

  Recent Linux kernel has its own performance monitoring support,
i.e., perf_events. You don't have to patch kernel anymore. A
userland tool `perf` can be used to do performance monitoring.

  perfmon2 is different from perf_events. perfmon2 needs a patched
kernel, perf_event is supported by kernel natively. perfmon2 is no
longer developed, use perf_event instead.

  libpfm4 leverages perf_events, it is different from previous libpfmX
