A quick poke suggests it would cost me about US$1700 just for the
flight from New Zealand, which is more than I can afford unless we can
find a sponsor or perhaps arrange it adjacent to the GSoC mentor summit
which I hope to be able to attend and is likely to be in October in
Mountain View (California, USA).

I think given the worldwide spread of both developers and users, it
might be more feasible to try to have regional events and/or a virtual
get together, but if someone wants to try to pull together a single
physical meeting somewhere, I'm not averse to the idea.  Just bear in
mind that hotel rooms are not the biggest expense for many potential
attendees.
