No, they do not. Intentionally it seems:

$ grep trap /usr/bin/mysqld_safe
trap '' 1 2 3 15                   # we shouldn't let anyone kill us

That is WHY i wrote that script and made that hack, trapping the signal
for them and sending them a shutdown they do understand...
