Dot after name

Greetings, all.

My style requires me to conclude the author(s) list with a period, and
not a comma, prior to the title. So, instead of this:

Deutsch, David and Lockwood, Michael, ``The Quantum Physics of Time
Travel,'' in Scientific American (1994), 68--74.

  I need this:

Deutsch, David and Lockwood, Michael. ``The Quantum Physics of Time
Travel,'' in Scientific American (1994), 68--74.

Does anyone here know how to do this?

I have tried this:

\renewcommand*{\bibansep}{.}

and it makes no difference. I still get a comma following the authors.

Please, please, someone help!

Many thanks in advance,

Dan
