grid event

i am working with latest svn of the grid. is there a way to know when  
it is done rendering? i don't see an event, or even an obvious method  
i could attach to. perhaps "showMessage", but that seems hackish. I  
want to create the grid offscreen, and then animate its entrance onto  
the screen once it is done loading/rendering. any ideas?
