Monthly (or year to date) Products Purchased report

Though we have a products purchased report which includes ALL purchases since the store went live, and
though we have a monthly sales report which gives us sales amounts for the month, we don't seem to have
anything to report on year-to-date sales, or anything which can limit the search of products purchased to
a limited time span, like a certain month.  This would be helpful in order to compare month-on-month item
sales -- which I do manually in a spreadsheet at this time.  

What about pulling a "Frankenstein" on the two reports files (monthly and products purchased) to see if
there is a simple way to make a solution?
