The impression I get here in New York is that there is quite a bit of 
temporary (project based) work, but not many companies are hiring 
permanents right now. Makes sense: I wouldn't hire permanent right now 
either. Instead get temporary talent, evaluate them, and when you're really 
sure there will be enough work you can pick someone permanent that you've 
worked with and know is good. Would you say that's a fair-ish assesment of 
the job market (or am I missing something?)
