Malthes PLIP is talking about a way to configure views without changing
templates.

Site managers have different opinions as to how a listing should look in
something like a smart folder.

Most of the time they just want to do simple stuff. Like hiding the
author the description, showing the publishing time, decide the size of
an image, or hide the image entirely.

The problem with using templates and views for this, is that it is a
squared problem compared to the number of attributes. Configuration on
the other hand is linear.

A simple example would be to have a list of checkboxes, that would
determine what attributes would be shown in a listing. Like:

_ show title
_ show description
_ show text
_ show author
_ show "more ..." link
[select] Image size
... etc.

Obvious configurations would be the dublin core attributes. But text,
images, event dates etc. would also be practical.

For an example you can check out the PageBuilder product which has
something like this implemented.
