A couple of friends in the Seattle area carve it all the time. They =20
get chunks a few cubic feet in size from the local landscaping stone =20
yards. They carve it with make shift tools - hatchet, saw blades, =20
rasps, putty knife as a chisel, and any a number of other imaginative =20
tools. It is ridiculously abrasive and wears out most tools quickly. =20
Both sculptors are accomplished carvers in regular stone, but they =20
just like the fast work of porous material, especially for quickly =20
creating garden art that you can sell for 50-150 bucks.

It serves as a good teaching medium also. Sometimes called =20
"featherstone".
