Re: Karaoke

Hi Rob,

Plenty has been written by popular music scholars on the topic of  
karaoke. I would search for pieces by Shuhei Hosokawa and Toru Mitsui  
(Karaoke Around the World: Global Technology, Local Singing, 2001, for  
a start), as well as Christine Yano, among many others.  You'll also  
find many studies of karaoke in pubs, and local variations on the form  
in Brazil and elsewhere (Rob Drew has written on karaoke scenes in the  
US).  Try the journal Popular Music as a good starting point, and go  
from there.
