Subject: Aesthetics of 3D cinema Many thanks to Miriam Ross for the helpful response to my query about 3D film! Since I wrote I have discovered an article forthcoming in the newest issue of the journal Projections that will be really helpful. It is by Barbara Flueckiger and the title is "Aesthetics of Stereoscopic Cinema." It also uses Pina as a key example, along with Avatar. I believe the issue is dated Spring 2012 and will be out literally any day now. Stephen Prince is the journal editor. You may also be interested to know there is a website for vision issues titled Sovoto: the Vision Advocacy Network. A primary issue on this site is strabismus and associated problems in binocular or stereoscopic vision. Since Sue Barry published her book on acquiring stereoscopic vision at age 50, there is much more interest in vision therapy for people who have never had 3D vision (like myself). Some discussions may be of paritcular interest such as the following, in which I have participated, about not having stereoscopic vision but being able to see some 3D in movies, including suggested explanations of when and why this occurs. (I believe you can read without joining the network, but to post you must join.) http://www.sovoto.com/forum/topics/no-stereo-vision-but-i-can-see-the-3d-effect-in-3d-movies I'll share more bibliographic material when I am a little bit further along.
