That's why I'm interested in lua-gtk. It is very straightforward to
generate widgets, populate them, and perform actions. I even
managed to find the magic incantation to make them stay
on top. But lua-gtk is in a state of flux, I'm waiting for
Wolfgang to make a new release. Definitely in the next
few weeks!

It turns out (and this is really evil, on one level) to be possible in
lua-gtk to modify the internal packing of SciTE's widgets,
and, yes, get a sidebar. Without any code changes to the core.
