I never got the spelling corrector working in Kile (on Gnome). I found a forum thread discussing that issue, and they said you only could do spell checking while being in KDE. But that was more than one year ago... so perhaps it's fixed now.

I wouldn't say that. Kile works fine with Gnome. I use it on my Ubuntu. There's just one handicap, you need okular, to use it.
But I think the idea of Nicolas, isn't bad. May you test this.
