Other good gifts include memberships in organizations such as CAMWS or APA or ACL. Simpler gifts can be something like a mug with Latin on it or something similar. At the risk of being chastised for blatant self promotion, you can find a variety of Latin mugs and even a couple of spirals (though they are unlined... wish they were lined) as well as t-shirts, etc at Anima Altera at www.cafepress.com/animaaltera. CANE also has mugs and I think L&L Enterprises is also selling mugs along with their other Latin materials. But personally, I like a book. I like the feel of books, the smell of books, the look of books. It's not like classics departments are graduating dozens of seniors at a go.... Consider the money spent as an investment in the future--the future of that student as well as the reputation of a department. The way your professors treated you will always stand out more than how brilliant they were. ;) ginnyL > For the past several years, we've made it a custom to give > our each of our graduating seniors a book, with a bookplate > to commemorate the occasion [this year, e.g., Charles > Martin's new translation of the _Metamorphoses_].
