Position Announcement - Technology Strategist and Reporting Librarian (Massachusetts)

*Technology Strategist and Reporting Librarian for HCL Technical Services

Reporting to the Head of HCL Technical Services, this individual is 
responsible for research/evaluation/implementation of new 
technology/innovative methods to address issues that impact library 
services/directions in the areas of acquisitions, cataloging, 
descriptive metadata schemas, database maintenance, quality control, 
ergonomics, productivity. Initiates/collaborates/oversees 
selection/implementation of innovative methods to acquire/process 
materials in multiple metadata schemas. Manages/oversees/develops 
reporting of department statistics or data gathering using COGNOS. 
Manages design/maintenance of internal databases. Plays a primary role 
in macro development/implementation. Liaison for OCLC HCL budget issues 
and software/programs and to HUL OIS and HCL ITS regarding 
introduction/implementation of new technologies/automated processing 
routines. Keeps current in new acquisitions/cataloging software 
applications, technology changes, developments in integrated library 
systems, bibliographic utilities, vendor databases, national library 
programs, and performs authority work, acquisitions and cataloging to 
stay current in workflows and trends. Participates in professional 
organizations. Attends regional/national conferences.

Basic Qualifications: MLS or equivalent relevant experience required. At 
least four years experience in an academic library environment. 
Expertise in programming, statistical or reporting software packages; 
MARC21 & descriptive metadata schemas; basic principles of acquisitions 
work; integrated library systems and bibliographic utilities; MS Windows 
applications; reporting and programming environments.

Additional Requirements: Working knowledge of additional languages; 
experience with Macro Express/Aleph highly desired. Solid 
organizational, analytical, communications, problem-solving, 
interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to work collaboratively in 
a team environment; maintain confidentiality.

HCL Technical Services is comprised of acquisitions and cataloging staff 
in language-based technical services divisions responsible for materials 
processing from purchase through provision of intellectual access. HCL 
Technical Services is located in Central Square at 625 Massachusetts Avenue.
