There is no one easy answer because it depends on the paper.  Coated 
papers such as those used in magazines and plates are almost 
impossible to separate without damage.  Other papers may just 
separate using a tool such as a letter opener. If there is mold, then 
you have to de-mold the pages.

The solution for a valuable book is different from a book currently in print.
