Recording height, extent of item

Aloha,
   As one who would occasionally have to search for a misshelved book in 
the library where I worked, I can tell you that having the height of 
and pagination of the book in the record helped in those endeavors.
   Extent of item is also helpful in determining whether a work is a 
lengthy treatment of a subject.  Recording the fact that a work is 
illustrated (and that the illustrations are in color) is especially 
helpful when you have someone searching for their family crest who wants 
to see the colors.
   While some might consider things like recording the height to be merely 
historical artifacts (and recording height clearly is a historical 
artifact) there really are valid reasons for keeping such information in 
cataloging records.
