Re: online departmental policies/procedures

Online departmental policies/procedures
*Summary of results*

   - we used a combination of a staff *wiki* and *GoogleDocs* to document
internal policies and procedures. The drawing function of GoogleDocs is
great for workflow diagrams and other visual data.

   - Library shared drive on our University's server and that is where I
put documentation for the Cataloging Unit. I do the documentation in *
Word* and in the past used SnagIt to include screen shots. I now have
Windows7 on my PC and it has Snipping Tool that I use for inclusion of
illustrations. I seem to be the only one in the Library who has done this
   type of documentation.

   - We use both *LibGuides* for our policies/procedures. See, for example:
      - http://libguides.lib.siu.edu/mapcatmanual

   - We use a locally-installed, limited-to-library-staff instance of *
   MediaWiki* for our documentation.

   - It does support inclusion of images, including images or pdfs of
diagrams or charts that illustrate workflows. All departments can access
the wiki, so it bridges the boundaries there.

   - We use *Drupal*. And it does all of the above.
