Letter sent to Dr. Lindberg re: Cancer meeting abstracts

In case anyone missed this announcement, due to a subject line that kind of
sounded like an ILL request, I am reposting it again:

I am pleased to announce that MLA Executive Director, Carla Funk, and MLA
President, M.J. Tooey have co-authored a letter to NLM Director, Donald
Lindberg, M.D., requesting that NLM address the issue of including
cancer-related conference abstracts in an easily accessible online database.
They indicate that this question was raised by the Cancer Librarians Section
of MLA, and has been under discussion with NLM since 2003. They respond to Dr.
Lindberg's request for evidence that cancer abstracts are important to patient
care by attaching a selection of the physicans' and nurses' statements that
were collected by many of us in support of this issue.

This is an excellent letter that I would be happy to share with any of you
upon request. I will keep you posted on the response, which will hopefully be
positive!

Thanks to all who lent support for this effort, and especially to those who
worked hard to collect physician or nurse commentaries on this.
I'd also like to publicly thank Carla Funk and MJ Tooey for their outstanding
contribution towards reaching the goal of making this important information
more readily accessible and available.
