Re: Room reservation program or scripts (Hoyte, Daniel)
When I was at the Queensland University of Technology we implemented the Meeting Room Booking System http://mrbs.sourceforge.net Our developer found it "very configurable" (he loved working with the PHP) and it works with a number of authentication servers http://mrbs.sourceforge.net/view_text.php?section=Documentation&file=AUTHENTICATION Cheers. This year's free, half-day program will focus on standards as they're experienced by readers and other content consumers and feature thought leadership in the critical areas of identification, discovery and format. Those interested in attending should RSVP to nisohq@... "The Changing Standards Landscape has become a tremendously successful event since its inception four years ago," said Todd Carpenter, NISO's Managing Director. "Developing a deeper understanding between the publishing, distribution and library supply chains is increasingly critical and each year we've focused on significant challenges our communities face alongside standards and best practice solutions. This year's program will highlight again how rapidly our industry is changing and how BISG and NISO are proactively addressing these issues." Mr. Carpenter will be onsite to co-chair the forum alongside BISG's Executive Director, Scott Lubeck. Together they will guide attendees through three programmatic themes: 1. Identify and Describe 2. Format, Discover and Retrieve 3. Purchase and Use "The ways in which end-users eventually experience and interact with standards largely drives how these standards are built," said Mr. Lubeck. "We're happy to be able to bring light to this important perspective, one shared by both BISG and NISO." The Changing Standards Landscape is organized jointly by the NISO and BISG. Both organizations support, promote and maintain standards and best practices in the information community. NISO focuses on publishers, libraries and the systems suppliers in information distribution. BISG focuses on the book supply chain of publishers, manufacturers, wholesale and retail suppliers. Research Data Access and Preservation http://www.asis.org/Conferences/IA10/ResearchDataAccessSummit2010.html Phoenix, AZ | Hyatt Regency | April 9-10, 2010 In cooperation with the Coalition for Networked Information Research Data Access and Preservation Researchers in all fields generate and analyze enormous quantities of digital data. In fields ranging throughout the sciences and humanities, managing, preserving, and sharing these data require substantial capital and human resources and new kinds of information professionals who are able to integrate technology, content, and policy skills. This summit aims to bring together leaders in data centers, laboratories, and libraries in different organizational and disciplinary settings to share ideas and techniques for managing, preserving, and sharing large-scale research data repositories with an eye toward achieving infrastructure-independent access and stewardship. The summit will engage three kinds of leaders: those from projects with experience in integrating high-performance technologies; those from large scale collaboratories in science, social science, and the humanities; and those from institutions coping with the challenges of integrating different technologies and data collections. The network has not seen much traffic the last few months and most people requesting to join are posting profiles full of link spam. The return is no longer worth the work. I am not transferring it to anyone else. I want to freeze and archive the contents in some way. Thursday I will be suspending all members of the network. The content will remain but no one will be able to post to it. I am not passing it along to someone else because my name is attached to it and I do not want it to turn into something I would not want to be associated with. If members of the network feel a need for it, they can start another one on Ning. Library 2.0 on Ning has been a big success but it is now time to move on. Networks that require you to go to them to use them are a thing of the past. I have no regrets about what started as a place for me to experiment with Ning and Web 2.0. It grew far beyond my wildest hopes. At one point it got over 50 posts a day but is now getting less than 4 posts a month. I have learned much from it and made many new friends. See you in Cyberspace on Twitter, Facebook, and other places. ----------------------------------------- Wilfred (Bill) Drew, M.S., B.S., A.S.
