Position Opening: Integrated Library System (ILS) Project Manager (2-year appointment)
Linda Hall Library is seeking qualified applicants for an Integrated Library System Project Manager. Position Title: Integrated Library System (ILS) Project Manager (2-year appointment) Scope and Role: The ILS Project manager is responsible for coordinating the on-site day-to-day operations associated with the migration of the Linda Hall Library's Integrated Library System from the SirsiDynix Horizon platform to the Ex Libris Voyager platform. Additional support and discovery services including open URL resolution, federated search, and digital asset management systems are included in this implementation. Position works with an off-site consultant retained by the Library on the implementation of discovery-based web services, and reports directly to the President of the Linda Hall Library. Responsibilities: 1. Provides leadership and coordination for the implementation of the Library's new ILS. 2. Leads the ILS Implementation Team through all aspects of the implementation from system configuration through beta-testing and staff training. 3. With Department Managers identifies operational aspects of the migration project. Sets deadlines and assures scheduled completion of tasks. 4. Consults with the Senior Management Team on all aspects of the implementation. 5. Coordinates all communication between the Linda Hall Library and the ILS vendor. 6. Assures completeness of project documentation and storage. 7. With Financial Office tracks and aligns budget. 8. Oversees beta-testing of system. 9. Provides staff instruction (training) in the use of the system. Competencies: 1. Proven leadership skills and the ability to elicit cooperation and team work. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of software and data formats including knowledge of macros (particularly MacroExpress), SQL-compatible database applications, markup languages, spreadsheets, Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC), emerging metadata schema, OCLC Connexion, third party/vendor supplied processes, and metasearching, familiarity with open URL. 3. Working knowledge of Library Automation and Technology specific to the acquisition, cataloging, and processing of, and access to library resources, and the maintenance of library bibliographic databases. 4. In-depth understanding of serials cataloging best practices and procedures. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Superior communication and inter-personal skills. 2. Demonstrated aptitude and affinity for complex organizations. 3. Minimum 5 years managerial experience in Systems and/or Library Technical Services. 4. Responsibility for the successful implementation of an ILS or comparable installation. 5. Familiarity with Ex Libris and SirsiDynix products. 6. MLS or MLIS from an accredited library and information science program or the equivalent in experience and/or relevant education.
