Distance Learning Librarian

Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University seeks an innovative, collaborative, service-oriented
librarian to fill the newly created position of Distance Learning Librarian.  Reporting to the Head of
Library Technology and Systems, this tenure-track position will collaborate with reference, library
technology, and instructional technologists (TEAL) to identify, implement, and promote innovative
online tools and services for both on-campus and off-campus learners.  

This position will work with Instruction and Reference to coordinate reference, instruction, and
information literacy assistance to CCU off-campus and online students and faculty, and will work with
Library Technology and Systems in identifying and integrating technologies such as social networking,
virtual reference, mobile technologies, and other Web 2.0 applications to support instructional and
research activities for local and remote learners.

Required Qualifications include: 
MLIS degree or equivalent from ALA-accredited library school;  
knowledge of trends in provision of library services and information literacy initiatives;  
experience providing reference or library instruction in an academic library; 
experience with electronic resource management, integrated library systems, course management
systems, social networking technologies, remote authentication, resource linking, online course
delivery, and other emerging technologies; 
experience with CSS, HTML, or related technologies and Adobe CS or other web design/authoring tools; 
excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; 
strong computer skills; 
and willingness to travel to off-campus sites and to work a flexible schedule as required.

Preferred Qualifications include: 
Two years experience in an academic library setting; 
experience delivering instruction and reference services in a distance learning environment; 
knowledge of reciprocal borrowing, interlibrary loan and document delivery services; 
knowledge of copyright and fair use principles and practices; 
and familiarity with distance education services and programs.

This is a twelve-month, tenure track faculty position with a comprehensive benefits package. Salary will
be commensurate with candidate's experience and professional achievement.
