I can not use install.packages

I use ess and emacs under windows xp.
I use M-x R to start R in ESS.
when I input install.packages("MASS"),
only display
--- Please select a CRAN mirror for use in this session ---,
then nothing happens.

Why? Have you ever happened to this questions?
