This is one concept, but with few of us in the right demographic, it is a little tricky. I would like to see some netrek lan parties designed to bring in newbies. Other methods are to pimp it on gamer forums, paid advertising, and to make it easier to learn. The best answer for increasing ease of learning that I've heard suggested is a tutorial system that would walk a newbie through tasks of increasing difficulty; first have them steer around a planet change speeds and orbit, then learn weapons against very stupid bots, maybe a little tractor/pressor practice, then a simple take. And the clients need to be a little more newbie friendly, in that how to send and receive messages needs to be more obvious. Incoming message windows, especially for direct messages, should blink window borders or something, and maybe an audio clip saying "incoming message", and of course a way to switch that off :) Zach, I liked the poem! --andrew b -- -- To post send mail here: netrek-forever@...
