Re: 1990 ?
1990 is just a prototype, still uncomplete and has
never been tested so far.
It's not about railroads but on the development of the
telecommmunication industry in the 90s.
The main features of the game are:
- telephone operators companies and telco vendor
companies (the equivalent of manufacturers of locos in
18xx..)
- 3 markets (maps): fixed telephony, mobile telephony
and the internet where the telephone operators compete
- a technological flow-chart where new
telecommunication systems are developed by vendors
- a linear stock market where prices drop when
dividens are paid and go up when the company withdraws
Having said that, telephone operators companies
produce revenue in two basic ways: a) gaining market
share by placing exchanges (tokens) on the different
regions of the maps with mechanisms similar to China
(and yes Kardinal & Koenig indeed) b) installing new
telco services that increase the revenue per user. The
combination of these two gives the company revenue.
Exchanges and services are bought from vendor
companies that in turn, produce revenue per effect of
those sales. Part of this revenue is returned to
shareholders, part is invested in R&D with the
consequent triggering of new game phases.
A set of anti-trust laws avoid monopolies or fishy
passage of money between the different type of
companies.
I cannot give any availability date at this stage. But
thanks for asking.. :)

Hello Alessandro.
I've visited your website http://www.18fb.it/ and was
surprised to see
details about another "18xx" games, called 1990.
unfortunately a part
of it is in italian, even though it's closer to french
than to english,
sometimes I can only guess.
Would you mind to give us some more details aboit it?
- availability?
- general mechanisms of the OR (close to China
(Kardinal & Koenig)?)
Fred
