Re: [world-scrabble] Non-verb

Andrew Fisher writes: 'David Sutton's most recent anagram quiz (which
included AELLMSU) reminded me
of the phoney verb ALLUME* that I use to remember MALLEUS, MEDULLA and
MULLIGAN. I wonder if there are any other such forms?'

If we are just talking words that are or look like verb forms which might
lead some people (though probably not Andrew!) to infer the existence of
companion verb forms which in fact don't exist, then it may be worth noting
the following in addition to the ones already mentioned:

ABLUTED no ABLUTE*
SCRODDLED no SCRODDLE*
SILICONISED no SILICONISE*
SILICONIZED no SILICONIZE*
BRIMING no BRIME*
MAINSTREETING no MAINSTREET*
MARAGING no MARAGE*
FRACKING no FRACKED* or FRACKS* (though there is, unrelatedly, FRACK)
FRATCHING no FRATCHED* (though there is FRATCH and FRATCHES)
GANGLING no GANGLE*
PREMADE no PREMAKE*
PREHIRING no PREHIRE*
PREPLANT adjectival: no inflections
PREREVIEW adjectival: no inflections
SUGGING no SUG* (but it's coming!) or SUGG*
SWISSING no SWISSED* (but there is SWISS and SWISSES)
UNCOATING no UNCOAT*
UNCOATED no UNCOAT*
ROBORATING no ROBORATE*

I'm sure there are many more -ING and -ED forms with the potential to
mislead: it just depends on how easily misled one is!
