Definitely give TRNHG a try.  It was my first horseracing game and its still overall the 
most fun I've played.  Among my others are TurfMaster (+Course Collection 1), Win 
Place&Show, and Royal Turf.  

TRNHG is the best in terms of fun
TurfMaster is the best jockeying sim
WPS is the best overall simulation
RT is the  fastest and lightest of all of them
