IMAP assumes that one command does so. Are there any other protocols 
with the same feature? I don't know. IMO one example isn't enough to 
prove an idea bad, but two or three may well be.

Except that you can't run any commands that have to be run before 
authentication, such as IMAP STARTTLS.
