simple-cdd questions

Hello everyone,

I have used simple-cdd to make a install disk of some of my favorite
software for i386, how would I go about making a amd64 version of the
same CD? Is it possible to make a multi arch install CD using
simple-cdd?

One other thing, I would like to change the art work for the initial
start up screen to a custom one, how would you I go about doing this?
links to documentation would be appreciated. :)

Best regards
Charlie

Next steps in renaming

Hi,

after the announcements about the new name there are more things to do:

    1. Uploading new blends-dev package
Changes are in SVN and need some fixes and testing. I'll provide
a transitional package cdd-dev which contains links to the respective
blends packages. I consider issuing warning messages inside the
scripts if $0 =~ /^cdd/ just to make sure that everybody notices the
change and will switch in the near future. I plan to help the other
Blends to enable a smooth transition. I think these technical details
are in good shape and under control.

    2. Moving the alioth project
This was also requested in response to the announcement. IMHO the
best way would be to register a new project blends and move those
parts from the project which are connected to Blends to the new
project while leaving the old project for SimpleCDD.

    3. Mailing list
I would proceed like above: Leave this mailing list for SimpleCDD
discussion and ask for a debian-blends mailing list sounds reasonable.

What do you think? Did I missed something? If not I'll continue with these
steps.

Kind regards

      Andreas.

Couldn't create a image with simple-cdd, but I could!

Hi folks:

I really don't know if anything is broken in lenny but, I managed to
create etch images with
simple-cdd but, from a week ago, I couldn't anymore.

I'm running the same command I used to:

build-simple-cdd --graphical-installer --profiles my \
        --keyboard br-abnt2 --locale pt_BR --auto-profiles my \
        --debian-mirror http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian \
        --local-packages custom-packages --dist etch

profiles/my.conf:
mirror_components="main non-free"

profiles/my.packages:
debconf-utils
ntpdate
ldap-utils
cfengine2
selinux-utils
openssh-client
sun-j2re1.5

custom-packages directory:
simple-cdd-profiles_0.3.8_all.udeb
sun-j2re1.5_1.5.0+update16_i386.deb

simple-cdd-profiles package was 0.3.7 and I've updated it early today,
but it gives me the same error.

I've also started over on another $simple_cdd_dir... same error:

Capital City Energy (CETG.OB)

BUSINESS FIRST

http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2008/11/10/story1.html

Tim Crawford's faith in what he thinks is a fundamental truth in the energy business seems to sustain him as
oil and natural gas prices tumble and stock values fall.

"Everyone has to fill their gas tank and heat their home," said the CEO of Capital City Energy Group Inc. in
Columbus. "Alternative (energy) will go only so far, so we're entrenched in fossil fuels. We're not
getting off the stuff overnight."

It's good Crawford sees things that way, given that Capital City Energy became a publicly traded company
last spring as it began a transition toward a full-service oil and natural gas operating company. Since
then, oil and natural gas prices have plunged by more than half and credit markets have practically dried
up for businesses with growth aspirations.

Crawford isn't sweating it. The long-range global demand for oil and natural gas and an integrated
business model designed to generate revenue in good times and bad will allow Capital City Energy to move
ahead, he said.

simple-cdd 0.3.7 seems not adding packages other than "main" ones

Hi

Maybe a bug, maybe a issue or maybe I'm messing things up but
simple-cdd 0.3.7 is not including
packages other than 'main'. Continuing to try to add a jre package,
I've downloaded with apt-get
in a etch box the "sun-java5-jre" one. It's brought me down the
following packages as dependencies:

java-common
libltdl3
odbcinst1debian1
sun-java5-bin
unixodbc

So I put them all in my local packages directory and added at my
profile (profile/my.packages).
As building the image using:

build-simple-cdd --graphical-installer --profiles my \
	 --keyboard br-abnt2 --locale pt_BR --auto-profiles my \
	 --debian-mirror http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian \
         --local-packages custom-packages --dist etch

It's exits with an error:

ERROR: missing required packages from profile NAME: sun-java5-bin sun-java5-jre
make: ** [debian-test-image] Erro 1

There's also interesting logs:

custom-packages/sun-java5-jre_1.5.0-14-1etch1_all.deb: component
guessed as 'main'
custom-packages/sun-java5-bin_1.5.0-14-1etch1_i386.deb: component
guessed as 'main'

Is it coincidence ?? The only two packages that's is not 'main' gets
the build process an error.
My last try, with a self created sun-java package also fails (please
see my yesterday post).

Any comments ?

Thanks a lot in advance

Re: problems on adding an package to a image using simple-cdd

Hi Jordi:

> You'll have to satisfy manually the dependences of the package.

Thanks for you answer, but from control file of sun-j2re1.5 package, I've got:

Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.6-6)

And my image is adding:

libc6_2.3.6.ds1-13etch7_i386.deb

It might not considering an satisfied dependence, do it ?

problems on adding an package to a image using simple-cdd

Hi:

I'm using Lenny but trying to build a etch custom CD. I was successful
until tried to
include sun-j2re1.5_1.5.0+update16_i386.deb created with make-jpkg.
Putting this package in a custom-packages/ directory and adding it to
my profiles/my.packages:

sun-j2re1.5

and doing:

 build-simple-cdd --graphical-installer --profiles my \
	 --keyboard br-abnt2 --locale pt_BR --auto-profiles my \
	 --debian-mirror http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian \
         --local-packages custom-packages --dist etch

it leads to:

<lots of things>
custom-packages/sun-j2re1.5_1.5.0+update16_i386.deb: component guessed as 'main'
Created directory "/home/lucas/simple-cdd/tmp//mirror/pool/main/s/sun-j2re1.5"
Exporting indices...
<more things>
ERROR: missing required packages from profile NAME: sun-j2re1.5
make: ** [debian-test-image] Erro 1

and bails out.

I don't know if the problem is that sun-j2re1.5 package is 'guessed as
main'.....

By the way, I had to put simple-cdd-profiles_0.3.7_all.udeb from lenny
in custom-packages/
directory...

Is that an issue, bug or am I messing things up??

Thanks a lot in advance

linux-image issue

Hello… I’m attempting to use Simple-CDD to build an iso for a system and Im running into a problem getting a custom kernel installed. I have it stored in a local directory that I am passing to build-simple-cdd via the –local-packages option and I can build the iso. The problem comes during installation. The iso fails to ‘unpack’ the linux-image package, and then the install is effectively over. It does the whole “will attempt to…. Up to 5 times….’

This leads me to my question… what is the preferred methodology for getting a custom kernel package both included in a profile and installed when building a custom iso via simple-cdd?

Thanks in advance for any assistance…

Manuel, many thanks for this effort which is really welcome. But
IMHO this rather belongs to general Debian Pure Blends (formerly
known as Custom Debian Distribution) stuff and should rather go
to the cdd repository. I is a known fact that every project develops
nice tools and my goal is to find synergies to make these available
for everybody. This does not mean that I want to stop you from
continuing the good work but please use a variable for debian-science
at every piece of your code and try to use configuration files to
enable a generalisation easily.

I currently have no time to look into this code (regard me on pseudo-vacation)
but I would strongly vote to call this script

      blend-wnpp science

The science argument should make the script reading a configuration
file /etc/blend/science/science.conf which should contain all the
information you need and will be installed by the science-common
package. This is only some rough scetch what I plan for the future
but this should give you an idea how to design those scripts. I
also would like you to continue this discussion at debian-custom
list which is

Same here: Please consider

     blend science

or something like this.

I would really feel debian-science@ list apropriate ...

Full quote of the remaining stuff to inform debian-custom.

Thanks for your effort

       Andreas.

change in pakage dependencies

Hi,

I'm maintaining the Debian Package for a network appliance. The Update
is executed via Webinterface.
My problem is that I need an additional package in a newer Version of my
appliance.

I can't change dependencies, that would lead to an error, right?
Do I have any chance to tell my new paket it needs package xy??

The User does not have shell nor console access.

Thanks a lot,

Jan U. Hartmann
