It depends on what you want to achieve with this. hostapd does not manage port access control for a wired network, so unless you add some additional code to manage filtering of frames, you will not get much (well, any) security by using hostapd as the authenticator. That said, hostapd could be used as a building block for implementing IEEE 802.1X for wired networks, but you will likely need to do some small changes or at least use an external program to control ebtables for PAE functionality. -- -- Jouni Malinen PGP id EFC895FA
