Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
Multimedia :: Video

About: Advene (Annotate Digital Video, Exchange on the NEt) is aimed at
providing a model and a format to share annotations about digital video
documents (movies, courses, conferences, etc.), as well as tools to edit
and visualize the hypervideos generated from both the annotations and the
audiovisual documents. Teachers, moviegoers, etc. can use them to exchange
multimedia comments and analyses about video documents. The project also
aims at studying the way that communities of users (teachers, moviegoers,
students, etc.) will use these self-publishing tools to share their
audiovisual "readings", and to envision new editing and viewing interfaces
for interactive comment and analysis of audiovisual content.

Changes: This release has usability enhancements, new video control
shortcuts (numeric keypad), Braille display support through brltty (if is
it installed and configured), and speech synthesis support through eSpeak.
The workspace can be automatically saved and restored with the package. It
also fixes bugs found in previous Win32 versions.

[004] - Apache SQL analyser 0.9
  by Steve Kemp (http://freshmeat.net/users/skx/)
  Fri, Jul 4th 2008 13:29

Internet :: Log Analysis

About: asql allows you to run SQL queries against log files formatted in
the Apache common log file format. You may load multiple log files into a
session, then run queries using a full SQL implementation, to find things
such as the most common referers to your site, the greediest downloaders,
and much more. Internally, each log file is parsed and imported into a
temporary SQLite database, so performance is very good.

Changes: This release allows ad-hoc queries to be conducted directly from
the commandline, without launching the interactive shell at all. This is
achieved via a new commandline flag "--execute".

Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: Codestriker is a Web application that supports online code reviews.
Traditional document reviews are supported, as well as reviewing diffs
generated by an SCM (Source Code Management) system and plain unidiff
patches. There are integration points with CVS, Subversion, Clearcase,
Perforce, Visual SourceSafe, and Bugzilla. There is a plug-in architecture
for supporting other SCMs and issue tracking systems. It minimizes paper
work, ensures that issues, comments, and decisions are recorded in a
database, and provides a comfortable workspace for actually performing code
inspections. An optional highly-configurable metrics subsystem allows you
to record code inspection metrics as a part of your process.

Changes: Syntax highlighting support was added. The appearance of the
application has been updated. The ability to specify just a filename and a
revision number to create a review from a Subversion or Perforce
repository. TestDirector is now supported as a bug tracking system. Reviews
can be created just by entering the bug IDs, and the data can be retrieved
from Scmbug. The edit comment page has been updated to include a link back
to the associated view topic page. Support for LXR 0.9.5 was added. Any
line of any file in the review can be commented on, not just those that are
a part of the diff file.

[010] - congruity 8
  by Stephen Warren (http://freshmeat.net/users/swarren/)
  Fri, Jul 4th 2008 07:52

About: congruity is a GUI application for programming Logitech Harmony
remote controls. Configuration setup is via the Logitech Web site, in the
same fashion as Logitech's own Windows/Mac OS software. congruity will
handle processing the files downloaded from the Web site, which perform
"check connectivity", "configuration update", "firmware update", and soon
"ir learning" operations. It uses libconcord for the underlying remote
interaction, is written in Python/wxPython, and is portable to at least
Linux and Windows.

Changes: Remote "connect" was separated into a separate wizard step, and
advanced details on the detected remote are provided. Significant internal
reorganization and cleanup were done, which should allow for easier
integration of IR learning support later. All command-line parsing and
dependency errors now trigger a GUI error message, instead of just throwing
an exception. This prevents such errors from being invisible if congruity
isn't run from a terminal. A "Next" button focus/sensitivity bug was fixed.
Makefile enhancements were made. Resource cleanup was improved.

Education
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry

About: The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment
for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU
polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in
the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the
desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the
sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass spectrometric
simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations include polymer and
monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence cleavage, gas-phase
fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.

Changes: This release can select an arbitrary number of regions in the
polymer sequence. This feature is required to make the most out of the
cross-linking simulations available in massXpert. The implications of this
new development are pervasive all through the project and should allow even
more intuitive simulations to be performed in the XpertEdit module.

[026] - PCGen 5.14.1 (RC1) (Development)
  by Maredudd (http://freshmeat.net/users/Maredudd800/)
  Fri, Jul 4th 2008 17:31

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: PCGen is a Java (1.5+) -based character generator aimed at
supporting OGL role playing games like those based upon the SRD, RSRD, and
MSRD (such as Dungeons and Dragons). It is highly configurable by the
users, allowing the Game Master to add or remove races, classes, feats,
etc., and to implement house rules such as differing class or race
restrictions. Level advancement is also supported, with configurable
progressions of feats, skills and ability score bonuses. For "at the table"
support, PCGen offers a set of GM plugins. Further options allow the user
to produce a customized character sheet, which can then be viewed in, or
printed from, the user's WWW browser. It can also produce a "party" sheet
with the information needed by the GM.

[027] - pksh 0.1.0
  by Rocco Carbone (http://freshmeat.net/users/carby/)
  Fri, Jul 4th 2008 23:38

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: 'pksh' is a hack of the popular 'tcsh' for packets, bytes hosts,
and protocols counts. It is a shell, a network sniffer, a query language
for network monitoring, and finally a rendering engine to display in a form
readable for humans and network administrators all traffic on LAN segments.
It aims to give on character-based terminals the same level of information
'ntop' already provides via its embedded Web interface. It does not
continuously fill the terminal with packet/byte/protocol information, but
allows the user to perform his daily job at the shell level and take a look
at network only via a set of commands implemented as extensions to native
tcsh built-ins. Output can be filtered/sorted/paged/mailed/etc. using
native Unix commands.
