I'm inclined to think that maybe something in your net.br0 script is failing. 
If I were setting it up, I'd try to put everything except adding the port 
devices to the bridge in net.brx, and then have net.{eth,tap}x just add the 
device to the bridge (starting after and requiring net.brx). I suspect that 
net.br0 is partially successful starting up which breaks the attempt to bring 
it up later. what happens if you pull down all the routes for the bridge, 
detach the interfaces, and delete the bridge before restarting it. If you have 
another box that has an IRC client on it stop by #funtoo, and I'll try to help 
you faster.
