How to orphan a feature? (OpenChange)

Clearly the OpenChange feature won't make it into Fedora 10, and as I
feel my energies are best spent on upstream development, I would like to
orphan the feature http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/OpenChange and
the referenced packages (still pending review), for someone else to take
over for a future release.

Aside from a note like this to the list, what else do I need to do?

In particular, as libmapi/openchange has been approved, but not put into
CVS, how do I ensure this approval is useful to whomever comes after me?

Thanks,

Andrew Bartlett

system-switch-java

Hi devel team

Localization project is currently working on F10 translation, and found
that the module called 'system-switch-java' has not been requested it's
registration at Transifex for translation where all translators are
working on, please see the bug [1].

The package is on the list of Orphan packages[2], however it is not on
the list of Retired Packages[3].

Could you please advise us if this package still needs to be translated?

long-standing "can't connect to windows shares" bug...

Hi guys.

I have had problems connecting to Windows shares from nautilus
(Places->Connect to server), since F9 was first released.

The problem is described in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=448008 but the bug has seen
no activity for a few months now.

Am I the only one hit by this problem, or is it in fact not possible for
anyone to connect to a windows share from nautilus in F9?

I'd really love for this bug to get fixed in F9, but (at least) equally
important, is having it fixed in F10 release.

Am I alone here (in which case I must be able to tweak stuff on the
windows servers to get things going)? Or is this actually a problem for
everyone, "depending" on Windows files servers (in which case the bug
deserves a little more attention imho)?

Thanks for any feedback!

/Thomas

smolt-firstboot dependencies

Hello!

While spinning Rawhide I noticed that smolt-firstboot is picking mysql,
TurboGears and many python stuff as dependencies. Is that normal?

New mono SIG created

Hi,

If you are a user, packager or maintainer of any mono package, you may
like to know that there is now a SIG devoted to Mono.

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/Mono

I'm not quite sure yet how to set up a mailing list (I think it would be
really useful!) for it, but hey, it's early days yet!

Proposal: Split Fedora into sub-distributions

It's come to my attention lately that Fedora has, essensially, become
'to big for it's britches' (as you old farts like to say).
I think the time has come for Fedora to be split up into subgroups:

Fedora-Mainstream - For mainstream (ie., 'idiot') users... the types of
people who buy a $399 Wal-mart POS and expect it to 'Just Work' forever.

Fedora-Mini- Generic group for all 'miniature' Fedora distributions...
of which I'm sure I'm missing several.
    --Fedora-Embedded - Self explanatory I suspect
--Fedora-Low-Bandwidth - For people on low bandwidth connections...
this group would be primarily focused on 'how long will this take to
download?'

Fedora-Development - Generic development platform

Fedora-HPC - The High Performance Computing segment

Fedora-Legacy - Everything older than a Pentium 3 (or, alternatively...
all processors slower than ~1.0GHz).

Fedora-Server - Server distribution... should include all tools
necessary to setup various servers

Fedora-Live - All of the 'Live' distributions should go here... anything
from LiveCDs to LiveUSB images.

This proposal is far from complete... but I think it is necessary to
stop trying to be a 'everything and the kitchen sink' distribution...
and instead focus more on the groups that use fedora. For instance, the

Fedora not "free" enough for GNU?

I was just over at gnu.org to download the anniversary video recorded
by Stephen Fry, and while I was there decided to take a look at what
systems they recommend as being free.

They list BLAG, which is based on Fedora. But Fedora itself (and
Debian) is not there!

http://www.gnu.org/links/links.html#FreeGNULinuxDistributions

This struck me as rather strange, especially considering their
guidelines are actually based on Fedora's (and we are thanked for it):
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html

As far as I remember, Rahul Sundaram was talking to the GNU / FSF
people about this quite a while back. Is it just the difference over
binary-only firmware that's consigning us to the "non-free" heap?

Regards,

Below is what looks like the relevant part of the build log.
Any suggestions on why this is failing on the ppc but not on x86_64 and

Why I'll leave fedora (french speaking people only) [1]

Pfff...

En fait, quand je me relis, je me rend compte que finalement je ne donne pas

Eh Trashy, Zig Heil !
