It's been forever since I used fetchmail, so ICBW. This all sounds like you're trying to pass mail from fetchmail directly to maildrop. I'm sure you can, but let me ask you this: what do you do with outgoing and local (e.g. from cron) mail? You must have a mail server (MTA) installed because cron and a few other things depend on it. With MTA running on localhost, why not configure fetchmail to inject mail into its queue instead? I'm sure you'll find plenty of examples. Then configure your MTA to use maildrop as delivery agent. Again, I'm sure there's plenty of examples out there, but really, if MTA->MDA path doesn't work out of the box, your distro is severely broken.
