I am running mutt in an xterm window which I start using the uxterm script, which comes bundled with the xterm package (I am using version XFree86 4.2.0(165)). You have to choose the appropriate font and font size in order to successfully read your mail. Here is my setting, which should work for any UTF-8 setting including ja_JP.UTF-8. export LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8 uxterm -fn -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--18-120-100-100-c-90-iso10646-1 \ -T mutt -e /usr/bin/mutt -F ~/.mutt/muttrc-utf Anders
