It is about 8000 times easier to filter email than it is to filter 
newsgroup stuff.  It was simple to filter all the stupid stuff directly 
to the trash.  Occasionally if I had to write a new rule, I could also 
apply the rule retroactively to my folder and zip, the stupid ones that 
I missed were also gone then.

And the volume and size of the mail is no different than through the 
newsgroup.  And I can delete all the ones I've read and don't need 
anymore and just keep the ones that I might possibly reply to or mark as 
unread the ones I wanted to respond to.  Much easier, especially when 
I'm traveling, kind of like now.
