They still thread and subthread normally by the message references.  At 
least they do in Thunderbird.  Instead of sorting by date, you sort them 
by thread and then just select the whole subthread and delete.  Sorry to 
say that once a thread starts going down the pun path, they usually 
suffer the same fate too.
