RE: OT: Motif Rack - Will Be Nice Addition to My Karma

  Hi-

I've just transferred most of the sounds I collected from the net and
there is an awesome amount of support for the Triton\Karma (took days to
download and transfer to Midiquest). I have a Classic Triton Rack\Moss
board. I know many patches and combis are compatible with BOTH the Karma
and Triton. I was amazed to see that there is at least partial or total
compatibility with the Triton LE, Triton Studio, Trinity (with Alchemist)\
Z1 synth\ Prophecy (I believe...not totally sure), I've found patches on the
net supporting the PA-80 sounds (three banks), and 1200 patches from the
Novation (or Norad) Lead synth I believe. Bottom line is I REALLY think
that the Triton\Karma and the Motif Rack\S90 will be different animals
having different sound characteristics with each synth...kinda like trying
to compare apples and oranges. I'm reasonably certain each synth will be
great in it's own way and do some things the other brand won't.

Several GREAT resources for the Triton\Karma Korg are the Korg sites,
www.synthzone.com site and especially the www.irishacts.com site.

The Motif Rack certainly sounds enticing, but it's definitely NOT going to
make me want to get rid of my Triton...I'd sure LOVE to see an S90 Rack as
the S90 seems as it has more sonic firepower with 105 onboard mbs of sampled
sound as opposed to the 85 mbs on the Motif. Also the S90 will play all the
Motif sounds from what Yamaha has told me. If anyone hears anything of an
S90 rack, please post it!
Anyhow that's my two cents :-). Hope that helps!

  All Z Best,
  George

I love my Karma and the Korg sound ROM, but I also think the Yamaha
  Motif/S90 sounds nice.

I was browsing the Motif website, and saw a discussion thread about
the upcoming Motif-Rack. I assume this unit will be announced at
the upcoming NAMM show, Jan. 16-19, 2003.

This rack unit will supposedly have the following:
  - 1 Rackspace unit
  - Motif Sound ROM (unfortunately, not the S90 sound ROM)
  - 128 note polyphony
  - no sampler or sequencer

Here is the Japanese News Release (with a picture):
      http://www.yamaha.co.jp/news/2002/02112801.html

Another person on the discussion thread thinks this unit will retail
  for approximately $850 US.
