In the mid-90's there was a synthesis approach that was thought to 
be "the next big thing" called re-synthesis that, through Fourrier 
analyses, analyzed a sample and then determined all the additive 
partials present and then made the patch using additive synthesis 
but, to my knowledge, nothing much ever came of it.
