repository

Hello,

I played with mutopia a few weeks, updating and formatting very old scores (lilypond 1.3 and older :) ) and I have a couple of ideas I would like to submit :

1. It could be nice to host the mtopia .ly files in a repository, decentralised if possible (like bazaar)
it is compliant with licensing policies (since Mutopia urge people to use "open" licences)
it would enable a quicker and safer correction of typos (as for wikis)
it would enable contributors to update the source on a regular basis, and so follow the never stopping improvements of the lilypond code
2. It could be nice to have a coding policy
One issue while rewriting .ly files is the mess of the source. Contributors are not computer geeks and we could perhaps help them with some clear but complete templates and guidelines.
For example, screwing the maintainability of a .ly file is the mix of notes and scheme code (which could be easily solved by the use of nicely written functions in a separated file).

On Openstreetmap.org (a collaborative mapping project) it is said that the data should not be tweaked so that the resulting map comply to the expected one. Instead, one should wait for the engine (here lilypond.exe) to be improved so that clean data produce clean map...
This is not a chinese proverb but I think we could gain in maintainability by reducing tweaks as much as possible (or at least, by moving them away from the notes)

have a nice day

Yota
