Surely it's a bug in the packaging?
I don't think it would make a difference what Desktop Environment I
use, because Unity and Compiz would get dragged down regardless.

It seems it's only been tested on Ubuntu, where the dependencies
wouldn't show up - which is strange since this mailing list/project is
kde hosted.

I'll try the apt with --no-install-recommends.
